21c enlisted architecture and interiors firm Deborah Berke Partners to reimagine the 100-year old Metropole Hotel, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as a contemporary art museum, boutique hotel, and restaurant and bar. The design team worked to restore the character of this once-grand hotel while creating a modern, forward-thinking space to showcase the work of today's artists. The 156 spacious guest rooms are filled with custom furnishings that lend a decidedly residential feel, providing a comfortable respite from the thought-provoking art and nonstop energy that fills the museum galleries.

Executive chef Vanessa Miller takes a modern spin on classic French and Italian cooking. Focused on local and seasonal offerings, her Metropole menu is prepared with the goal of creating a social experience for guests at the forefront. Metropole's ever-changing menu showcases the area's sustainable farmers and producers while paying homage to the full potential of often undervalued ingredients. The bar and lounge are inviting places to explore the rotating selection of craft beers on tap, house-made cocktails, Bourbons, and a curated selection of old and new world wines. Designed by architect Deborah Berke Partner Architects, the space highlights original mosaic tile floors, arched windows, and architectural details, reestablishing the warmth and vitality of this historic gem.
