Location Summary
Located in Santa Barbara County, just north of the village of Goleta, the Gaviota Coast is a stretch of Pacific beachfront that runs East-West along an otherwise North-South coastline. The Gaviota area – which includes its coastal watersheds – is one of the largest, last remaining intact coastal Mediterranean ecosystems in California. More rural than most other Southern California coastal regions, the Gaviota Coast retains its incredible biodiversity, thanks in large part to the natural and agricultural landmasses that still dominate the area. Santa Barbara enjoys a Mediterranean climate – mild and sunny with average daytime temperatures between 60 and 80 degrees. Cool, crystal-clear nights are ideal for stargazing.
Directions to Hotel
Just 10 minutes from the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport, this Santa Barbara resort is approximately 90 miles north of Los Angeles (90 minutes by car) or three hours from LA via the scenic Amtrak Surfliner. Bacara Resort is a five-hour drive from San Francisco. From the Santa Barbara Airport: Go North on William L. Moffett Place, which becomes Fowler Road (0.3 miles). Fowler Road becomes South Fairview Avenue (1.1 miles). Take US-101 North ramp (0.3 miles). Merge onto US-101 North (3.5 miles), and follow From the South directions below. From the South: Take Highway 101 North. Exit Winchester Canyon Road/Hollister Avenue (Exit #110). At the first stop sign, go straight onto Calle Real, which runs parallel to 101 North (NOTE: Do not exit onto Route 217-Hollister Avenue/Goleta). Turn left at the second stop sign toward Hollister Avenue (which takes you over the highway). Take the first right onto Hollister Avenue and continue to Bacara’s Arrival Courtyard (the resort offers valet parking only). From the North: Take Highway 101 South. Exit Winchester Canyon Road/Hollister Avenue and turn right. At the first stop sign, turn right onto Hollister Avenue and continue to Bacara’s Arrival Courtyard (the resort offers valet parking only).
